Steatorrhea

Steat_orr_hea (for memorizing purpose)

- presence of excess fat in feces
- usually due to :

• reduced or no bile secretion
• bacteria
• Abetalipoproteinemia, or Bassen-Kornzweig syndrome (rare autosomal recessive disorder that interferes with the normal absorption of fat and fat-soluble vitamins from food)
• coeliac disease (an autoimmune disorder of the small intestine)
• inflammatory bowel disease
• short bowel syndrome
• cystic fibrosis (hereditary disease affecting the exocrine (mucus) glands of the lungs, liver, pancreas, and intestines)
• abuse of slimming pills.
