- Botox is short for botulinum toxin, a toxin secreted by Clostridium botulinum
- Botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) from nerve endings
- Thus muscles (at the wrinkles) do not contract because there are no neurotransmitter
- When muscles do not contract, no wrinkles
